--- Some plants have traditionally been used to repel mosquitoes in forested areas. In this work the extraction of essential oil from the leaves of the plant muña (Minthostachys mollis Grisebach) was performed by the method of stripping steam. The plant had previously been classified in the Department of Botany Natural History Museum of San Marcos. In this research mosquitoes obtained by the method of recovering larvae in stagnant water of the botanical garden of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of San Marcos, which were classified by the department of entomology at the Natural History Museum of San Marcos Lima they were used Peru. Repellency test with reference proposed by Talukder and Howse method was performed. Filter paper desiccator’s diameter (about 25 cm) which simulated the test cage was cut; this paper was divided into two halves. To avoid the volatility of the oil solutions it was prepared at 10, 15, 20% v / v mineral oil used cosmetic USP. As a positive control a trademark of repellent containing dietilentoluamida (DEET) spray about 15% was used. (According to information of the product itself) as a negative control and cosmetic mineral oil. The treated and untreated areas of each circle were placed contiguously in desiccators, and released within 10 mosquitoes. Counts of mosquitoes present were performed in each half of the circle every hour until the third hour after treatment it determined that the essential oil of “muña“ (Minthostachys mollis Grisebach), has a degree of repellency (level I), subsequently developed a cream from 10% essential oil with a degree of repellency grade I. Keywords: Repellent essential oil, “muña“, mosquitoes, dietilentoluamida (DEET), Minthostachys mollis Grisebach.
