The aim of this study was to identify common sequelae after treatment of mandibular fractures in patients attending the National Hospital Hipolito Unanue in 2009. We performed a cross sectional study and retrospective; the population consisted of 143 patients treated for mandibular fracture at the National Hospital Hipolito Unanue, of which 87 patients comprised the random sample simple random type. Data were obtained from each patient's medical records collected in a data collection instrument. We evaluated three groups of sequelae of occlusion disorders, ATM disorders and sensory disturbances, which were evaluated according to the type of fracture, the etiological agent and type of treatment provided by the bivariate analysis to test Xi2 (Chi square) to find the significance between them. We found that of the 87 mandibular fractures, post-treatment sequelae were frequent disturbances ATM with 40 cases, being more frequent in the aftermath of, Sound of mouth opening and pain to the opening, with 18 cases respectively. Sensory Alterations and specifically Hypoaesthesia were less frequent sequelae after treatment of mandibular fractures (10.3%). It was found that patients with mandibular angle fracture had higher number of sequels at the ATM. Physical attacks caused more occlusal consequences of ATM and sensory. It was found that rigid fixation resulted in a greater number of sensory consequences of ATM, while the intermaxillary, resulted in a greater number of occlusal consequences. KEY WORDS: MANDIBULAR FRACTURES - SEQUELS POST TREATMENT - ALTERATIONS ATM - RIGID FIXATION - INTERMAXILLARY FIXATION.
