--- The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between diagnosis and psychosocial aspect of TMD according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders Index (RDC/TMD) axis I and II in young adult students at the FO- UNMSM - 2013. Method: The sample was composed of 76 students between 18-30 years old with diagnostic of TMD, previous was applied a pilot study with exclusion and inclusion criteria. Results: Muscle disorders occurred in 11.84 %, the articular disc displacement in 55.3 % and other joint conditions in 32.9 %. For Muscle disorders and articular disc displacement the women showed a higher prevalence, there was statistically significant (p < 0.05). The articular disc displacement with reduction was the most frequent diagnoses for the right joint with 31.6% and for the left 22.4 %. In relation to axis II, for chronic pain grade the frequent was to Grade I 28.9 %, Grade II 11.8 %, grade III 1.3 % and grade IV 1.3 %. Depression showed moderate 7.9 % and severe 84.2 %. Somatization showed moderate 14.5 % and severe 77.6 %. There was direct relationship between muscle disorders and chronic pain grade (Rho = 0.472, p < 0.05). Conclusions: The articular disc displacement with reduction was the most frequent to the TMD, predominantly in the women. Muscle disorders related directly to chronic pain grade.
