The mining industry generates a large amount of organic waste, which is usually not used or valorized, opting for disposal to internal landfills or evacuating it. As a result, internal sanitary landfills have shortened their life span, impacting the disposal of other waste destined for landfills. In addition, disposal in the mining company's internal landfill has environmental aspects associated with its operation, such as the emission of atmospheric pollutants, leachate generation, among others. On the other hand, the external disposal of organic waste incurs excessive costs due to the fact that mining units in Peru are located in inaccessible places. The present work focuses on the valorization of raw organics generated in the canteens of a mining unit. The research addresses the recovery, treatment and valorization of organic waste through the composting technique to convert this waste into a product such as compost, which will be used in remediation and greening processes in the mine areas. The results obtained show that 48.9 tons of compost have been obtained with an average process yield of 49.4%. Similarly, according to laboratory results, the compost has a high nutritional value, and meets the optimum quality levels, however, parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity and moisture percentage should be optimized. Therefore, this proposal shows that it is feasible to implement composting in large-scale mining.
