Poverty is one of the world's major problems. Peru is no stranger to this reality. According to INEI (2024), in 2023 poverty affected 29.0% of the country's population, which is equivalent to 9 million 780 thousand people. This result represents an increase of 1.5% compared to 2022 and 8.8% compared to 2019 (pre-pandemic), that is, in four years 3 million 290 thousand peruvians have passed into poverty. This result is alarming considering that during 2004 - 2019 poverty was reduced by 39%, from 59% to 20%. On the other hand, various studies demonstrate the negative and significant effect of economic growth on poverty. However, them consider that the effect of growth is not the same, it depends on the sector composition of growth, meaning that growth in certain sectors has a greater effect on poverty reduction. Therefore, in this research, using regional gross product data by state and sector for 2014 – 2022, the effect of economic growth and its sectoral composition on the incidence of poverty at the peruvian level will be studied. To do this, a data panel model will be used in first differences. The study will seek to determine whether sectoral economic growth, despite being lower than in the past decade, has a significant effect on poverty reduction.
