The steel industry produces large amounts of slag as a byproduct of steel production. Therefore, it was decided to investigate the use of slag as an aggregate for the production of hot mix asphalt, aiming to maximize performance and utilize steel slag for the production of asphalt mixes, thereby reducing environmental impact. The research involved preparing asphalt specimens with aggregate materials by adding ES10%, ES20%, ES30%, and ES40% of steel slag to evaluate their mechanical and physical properties and the performance of the new combinations, and to compare them with the standard design. The results showed that the addition of ES10% and ES20% steel slag to hot mix asphalt can have an acceptable impact on mechanical and volumetric properties and provide good performance for the paved surface. However, the inclusion of 30% and 40% was found to be in an unfavorable condition (out of the voids range), and the use of 50% slag was found to be outside the granulometric usage. In general, it was found that some physical properties (voids and flow) increase with the amount of steel slag, and similarly, rutting increases and moduli decrease as the percentage of steel slag inclusion increases. Finally, the inclusion percentages of ES10% and ES20% steel slag are acceptable and have a good granulometric combination for hot mix asphalt. Furthermore, they tend to be more stable compared to the standard design, as they meet all the parameters required for heavy traffic (type A), which are presented in Table 7.
