The mineral processing plant in the mining industry presents risks that can affect the health of workers and the operation. Although control systems are applied according to legal regulations, accidents still occur, pointing out the need to adopt new methodologies to manage risks. This work addresses the implementation of the Bow Tie technique to evaluate risks during the maintenance of SAG mills in a mineral processing plant. Four specific objectives are established: identify critical tasks with a high incidence of incidents, identify hazards, determine causes and consequences of risks with their respective controls in the Bow Tie diagram, and offer training programs on the new security controls. These objectives are developed in an orderly and consecutive manner to meet the general objective: apply the Bow Tie methodology to the risk management system of the company Metso S.A. in the maintenance of SAG mills. A systematic approach is followed from data collection to the formulation of preventive and corrective actions, prioritizing the reduction of serious accidents. As a result, we identified 3 critical tasks in the maintenance of SAG mills of which we analyzed their related PETS and IPERC to identify their hazards and risks, creating a table of their potential risks, their possible causes, consequences, probability, and severity. With this, the Bow Tie diagram was developed for each critical task and established the preventive and mitigating controls that will be presented to the Ssoma leadership through a presentation of the results for approval and initiate training programs on the new security controls in the company's annual occupational health and safety program.
