Introduction: Despite many efforts, the sexuality of young women is still a taboo topic in Peru. Objective: To relate assertiveness and sexual satisfaction. Methodology: 216 university students (18 to 29 years old) participated, to whom the Sexual Assertiveness Scale (SAS) and the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale-Short Version (NSSS-S) were applied. Results: The initiation dimension (SAS) correlates positively with the two dimensions of the NSSS-S (ego-centered p= <.001; partner/sexual act. p = 0.002), while dimensions refusal (SAS) and pregnancy/STD prevention (SAS) do not show statistically significant correlations with the dimensions of the NSSS-S (ego-centered p= 0.09; partnet/sexual act. p = 0.15 y ego-centered p= 0.26; partner/sexual act. p = 0.09, respectively); comparing the results by type of university, it was found that women from public universities have higher scores in the pregnancy/STD prevention (SAS) dimension and in the NSSS-S dimensions; using marital status as a comparison criteria, the results indicate that cohabitants have the highest scores in refusal. Discussion: Young women who take the initiative to have sexual relationships and those who study in public institutions exhibit higher levels of sexual satisfaction in general; likewise, those who study in public institutions are more concerned about using contraceptives to avoid pregnancy; and, that single women or those who are cohabiting have a better capacity than married women to reject, if they do not wish to, a sexual relationship.
