The ceramic sector has experienced a 76.21% increase in the value of exports of ceramic or glazed tiles, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. However, it faces challenges in production control due to managing large volumes to meet demand. In this context, a research project focuses on a leading company in the manufacture of ceramic coatings, which faces issues with low equipment availability. The proposed solution is based on lean manufacturing. An SMED analysis is conducted to reduce setup times, followed by the implementation of the 5S methodology to improve organization and cleanliness in the workspace. Autonomous and preventive maintenance is introduced, and Standard Work is implemented to optimize production processes. The results show a 42.58% optimization in setup time, a 25% reduction in the number of breakdowns, and an improvement in production quality, with a decrease in the percentage of second-quality products from 16.3% to 12.5%. In summary, the implemented lean manufacturing tools have been effective in standardizing processes, reducing unplanned downtime, and enhancing efficiency in ceramic production.
