The primary objective of this research is to optimize inventory cost management at the Monterrico Clinic pharmacy. It seeks to evaluate current inventory handling processes and implement strategies to improve inventory management. To this end, a search and analysis of relevant background focused on process improvement in inventory management, control, and planning within pharmaceutical companies was conducted. Additionally, precedents related to the use of different inventory valuation methods and the importance of supplier relationships were examined. The evaluation of current processes was carried out through direct communication with trusted staff at the Monterrico Clinic, obtaining precise information about management within the purchasing, pharmacy, and accounting areas. The research comprises three parts: The first chapter presents the problematic situation, detailing the aspects to be optimized and the issues arising from poor expiration date control, such as increased operational costs and inventory losses due to expiration. The second chapter addresses the theoretical framework, defining the concepts of inventory management, inventory valuation methods, and strategic supplier relationships. Finally, the third chapter evaluates the feasibility, impact, and resources of the proposed alternatives, concluding that the best alternative is to introduce improvements to the inventory management system, with a particular focus on expiration date tracking and the optimization of operational costs.
