Globally, the production of plastics has experienced significant growth in recent years, thanks to the versatility of products made from this material. One of the techniques used to shape plastics is thermoforming, a largely automated process that requires keeping the machines continuously operational. Therefore, this research focuses on identifying, analyzing and solving the main causes that lead to low availability in the thermoforming line of a plastics company in Peru, as this entails considerable costs for the company. To address this problem, the implementation of Lean Manufacturing tools is proposed with the objective of increasing line availability by a minimum of 10% and maintaining competitiveness in the market. This model was validated using simulation in Arena software, which allowed establishing three possible solutions. After validating the model, it was observed that machine availability could increase from 80% to 93% in an optimistic scenario. In addition, improvements were recorded in set-up times, scheduling and reduction of downtime due to breakdowns, along with an increase in operational availability and project profitability, making it economically viable.
