The objective of this project is to develop a mechatronic system for the automatic identification of lemon quality using PLC model S7 – 1200 and digital image processing. The methodology used for the project is applied, pre-experimental design and quantitative approach. In addition, different programming software such as Python and TIA PORTAL were used for the control part. The results obtained were that the image acquisition area (FOV) has a length of 32 cm, in addition the camera was located at a height of 32 cm from the base for a better focus; The conveyor belt had a speed of 6 cm/s, subdivided into spaces for better transportation. In turn, the space between lemons that was considered was 50 cm for proper functioning of the system. In the pneumatic part, 5- solenoid valves were used. 2 24 V DC coils from Festo, in turn standardized double-acting cylinders and the FR maintenance unit (filter, regulator) were used. Finally, it was concluded that the mechatronic system made a good identification of the quality of the lemons based on digital image processing and the PLC model S7-1200.
