One of the main problems that exist in Lima and other cities in the world is the intense traffic congestion that exists daily, and how this affects people's quality of life. Despite this, there are ways to reduce the time wasted when traveling through these roads with high vehicular flow, such as in the case of the intersection of Próceres de la Independencia Avenue and El Sol Avenue. For this reason, this research consists of proposing an alternative solution to reduce the length of queues and travel times in public transport through a geometric redesign and traffic microsimulation. To do this, firstly, information on the current state of the study area was collected through drone video recording. Also, the Google Maps application and vehicle ratings were used. This information was analyzed and processed in a microsimulation model using Vissim software. In accordance with the calibration and validation of the model, the geometric redesign, segregated lanes and improvements in the traffic light cycle of the north and south accesses of Próceres de la Independencia Avenue are proposed. Finally, the proposal results in an average decrease of 85.36% in queue length and 19.60 % for travel times.
