This research was developed in response to the growing scarcity of water for population and agricultural uses in the Tacna region. The general objective of this study is to determine the water balance of the Ilabaya River sub-basin through the use of the WEAP hydrological simulation model. To do this, the model was calibrated and validated using the historical records of the subbasin. Agricultural demand was determined in five crop zones: Camilaca, Cairani, Huanuara, Borogueña, and Ilabaya; which added up to a demand of 84.51 MMC, and future population demand reaches 1.33 MMC. While the flow calculated through the WEAP hydrological simulation was 41.46 MMC. There is no doubt about the strong water deficit in the Tacna region, supplying only 50% of its demand naturally. The significant water deficit in the sub-basin reached an annual deficit of 53.23 MCM, with the period from September to October being the months of greatest water scarcity. By improving irrigation efficiency through a technical sprinkler irrigation system, simulated in the software, the situation improved, reducing the water deficit to 19.30 MMC, reducing almost 65% of the water deficit.
