For many years, indigenous representation has been left in the hands of third parties, due to the lack of access to the media by indigenous leaders. The objective of this research is to analyze the perception that these indigenous leaders have about their representation in the agenda setting. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews were carried out with leaders of indigenous peoples from 5 regions of the Peruvian Amazon. The results reveal that these leaders do not perceive that the agenda setting includes indigenous peoples and that, when they do, their representation is nuanced with a tone of prejudice, discrimination and stereotypes. Likewise, they perceive that the agenda setting is influenced by particular interests and that this has an impact on the way in which they are represented. The findings of this research contribute to understanding the relationship that indigenous leaders have with the media and the perception they have of their representation in the agenda setting.
