Background: Research related to indoor pollution is an emerging line of study today. Its effects on cognition are still relatively unexplored. Objective: To assess if there is an association between indoor air pollution and cognitive impairment in adults from the district of Puente Piedra, Lima, Peru, in the year 2022. Methodology: Secondary analysis on a probability sample of 1,052 residents of Puente Piedra: 736 adults (30-59 years) and 316 older adults (≥60 years). Cognitive impairment was measured using the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination (ACE-PE) in adults and the Rowland Dementia Assessment Scale (RUDAS-PE) in older adults. Exposure to indoor pollution was defined as the use of any pollutant-emitting fuel for cooking and the intensity of exposure to pollutant-emitting fuels. Sociodemographic profile and cognitive impairment risk factors were obtained through self-report, physical examination, and instruments. The corresponding statistical processing was carried out, including the use of Poisson regression to estimate prevalence ratios for crude and adjusted models. Results: No association was found between indoor pollution and cognitive impairment (adults: PRa=1.08, 95% CI=0.81-1.44; older adults: PRa=0.91, 95% CI=0.62-1.34). 16% of adults and 13.3% of older adults were exposed to indoor pollution. 21.9% of adults and 36.1% of older adults were classified with some degree of cognitive impairment. Conclusion: We did not find an association between indoor pollution and cognitive impairment. Additionally, we detected elevated levels of indoor pollution and cognitive impairment.
