Several scientific studies show that teachers' emotional competencies are related to and have an impact on the comprehensive development and educational success of their students. With the purpose of deepening this affirmation, this study aims to analyze the perceptions of preschool teachers regarding emotional competence and classroom climate. The sample was composed of 6 preschool teachers belonging to private sector educational centers in an age range of 25 to 38 years with a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the classroom, who oversee a group of students between 15 and 25 children. A qualitative methodology with an emergent grounded theory was used, employing the semi-structured interview technique as an instrument. The results show that 100% of the interviewees consider that emotions and learning in the classroom have a significant relationship during the teaching-learning process both in the teachers themselves and in their students. In addition, it was found that during the university training of the teachers, they were not offered a course within the curriculum in which they were taught about the use of strategies for the management of emotions in the classroom. We conclude by emphasizing the need to work on emotional competencies in the training of preschool teachers, understanding that if teachers are not able to self-regulate their emotions, they will not be able to welcome and support their students.
