The trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp in 2022 became a media phenomenon, transcending various digital platforms. Transmedia narratives are often rooted in non-fiction genres. However, it is desired to understand how a transmedia experience originated organically through the interaction of users on the different platforms, in which the audience could participate. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to analyze the transmedia experience of the case of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard through media competition. The qualitative method, interpretive paradigm and content analysis technique were used to analyze the comments of 12 TikTok accounts and 2 YouTube videos. Findings indicate that active audience participation is essential for narrative expansion in the transmedia experience. This interaction plays a key role, since it determines the creation of new worlds, both in real cases and in fiction. On the other hand, users show different interaction patterns on digital platforms, and they may question their own perspectives if they lack solid foundations. This research highlights the transmedia nature across multiple platforms, as well as its relationship with the concepts of media competence.
