This study examines how digitalization influences the economic growth of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) economies compared to its effect on countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The main reason for comparing more developed and less developed countries is to measure whether the effects of digitalization depend on the country's level of development. The article employs a panel dataset covering the period from 2010 to 2019. The results reveal that variables such as trade, capital formation, broadband subscriptions, and internet access have a significant impact on the economic growth of LAC countries. In contrast, in the OECD, none of the analyzed variables showed a significant relationship with economic growth. These findings support the hypothesis that the contribution of digitalization depends on the level of development of the countries. Digital technologies seem to offer more opportunities in less developed regions like LAC, where there is more room for significant improvements. Regarding policy implications, the study suggests that LAC governments should invest more in information and communication technologies (ICT) along with other infrastructures to fully benefit from digitalization and achieve sustained economic growth.
