eSports have experienced notable growth in the field of digital entertainment. Many of these digital events make use of live broadcasts for a better experience for viewers and participants. Within these events, the League of Legends World Championship “Worlds” is one of the most emblematic gaming events, where transmedia, audiovisual, musical and technological resources are used, involving thousands of spectators around the world. The objective is to understand transmedia storytelling used during the broadcast of “Worlds Opening Ceremony 2023” carried out by Riot Games. For this reason, a qualitative approach study was carried out, with a case study design, which responds to the interpretive research paradigm. The collection technique was semi-structured interviews, with the main categories being: transmedia narrative, streaming and League of Legends. The results of this study demonstrate that user participation in social networks generated conversations during the event and increased the virality of the event. The interviewees highlight the diversity of platforms used in this event, highlighting social networks such as Facebook and Instagram, allowing global audiences to be reached. Likewise, we can find the presence of characters as a complement to the narrative development of the stories developed. It is concluded that the use of transmedia narratives can be viable in live events transmitted via streaming.
