Background: Currently, mothers face challenges at a social, cultural, work, economic level, among others, to which they have had to adapt their parental responsibility to educate their children. Given this situation, various studies highlight the influence that sociodemographic characteristics have on the manifestation of parenting styles. Objective: Compare the parenting styles of mothers in Metropolitan Lima according to the sociodemographic variables raised in the research. Method: A cross-sectional natural group comparative design was used. 385 mothers from Lima aged between 20 and 59 years (M = 37.86, SD = 11.00) participated, to whom the Parenting Dimensions and Styles Questionnaire (PSDQ) was administered. Results: The results indicated that for the authoritative parenting style there are significant differences depending on the age group and marital status. In the case of the Authoritarian style, significant differences were found according to age group, marital status, level of education and hours of work and finally in the permissive style, no significant differences were found. Conclusions: The years of motherhood, the legal bond with the father of the children, education and professional career are associated with democratic and imperative behaviors in mothers in the way they raise their children, although the degree of impact is not great enough to establish conclusive results.
