Introduction: Globally, high blood pressure and binge drinking are considered public health problems, however, there are limited studies that analyze their relationship. Aim: To evaluate the association between binge drinking and high blood pressure measured in people aged 18 years and over, according to sex, Peru 2020. Methodology: The study was designed under a cross-sectional analytical model secondary to the 2020 demographic and family health survey (ENDES) and a total of 20,776 Peruvian adults met the selection criteria. Arterial hypertension, categorized as high blood pressure measured, was calculated with the average of two measurements of systolic and diastolic pressure in mmHg, and this was based on the WHO criteria. The main independent variable was binge drinking in the last 30 days based on the report of the quantity and alcoholic content according to the type of beverage consumed, considering the standards of alcoholic beverages for men and women according to the CDC. The prevalence ratio was calculated using generalized linear regression models of the family and crude and adjusted log Poisson link option, stratified for men and women. Results: Of our total population, 14.85% had binge drinking and 17.43% measured high blood pressure. 17.98% of men with measured high blood pressure had binge drinking, while in women it was only 6.55%. After adjusting our model for confounding variables, binge drinking was not associated with measured high blood pressure (PRc 0.78, 95% CI: 0.66-0.93). Conclusions: No association was found between binge drinking and measured high blood pressure.
