Emergency remote teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic posed serious obstacles for university programs of a practical nature, as is the case of the Audiovisual Communication program. This basic research study seeks to contribute new knowledge from the perceptions of professors considering the scope and limitations of teaching practical courses in the Audiovisual Communication program in an online environment. The research design is phenomenological and non-probabilistic purposive sampling was used. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews to ten professors of this undergraduate program at a private university in Lima (Peru) conducted using the interview guide instrument. The results reflect that the participants assume that the institution’s graduate profile seeks to respond to the demands of the audiovisual industry. Furthermore, among the obstacles faced by professors in adapting practical courses for online learning, the interviewees highlighted the lack of technological capacity, the lack of knowledge of digital resources for teaching, and the importance of face-to-face classes to consolidate technical and collaborative skills among students. In relation to the post-pandemic situation, it was found that the interviewees resorted to establishing reinforcement sessions to face the students’ technical deficiencies caused by the confinement. The participants point out that the practical component of the major should be taught face-to-face, although they raise the possibility of creating a new program focused on digital communication.
