This paper aims to explain the application of electroacoustic music in science fiction and horror films in three specific periods: 1963-1970, 1971-2010 and 2011-2018. The first chapter defined the genres of science fiction and horror in cinema and then explored the first uses that electroacoustic music had within this environment. It is worth highlighting the role that electroacoustic music played to evoke certain emotions in viewers, both to highlight the sense of mystery or danger. The second chapter focused on the evolution and expansion of electroacoustic music from its first uses, from 1971 to 2010. Likewise, an analysis is made of how electroacoustic music in science fiction and horror films began to have different trends, influenced by the first composers in this genre and how new artists create their new compositional language. Then, the third chapter explores the application of MIDI technology and digital programs from 2011 to 2018, the combination with ethnic elements and the fusion with orchestration, as these elements allowed exploring new sonic possibilities, becoming an integral part of the musical production of electroacoustic music in science fiction and horror cinema. The analysis of the diverse examples related to the genre can result in a starting point or inspiration of resources and ideas for the composition of this music for science fiction, horror, or even other audiovisual media.
