In the present thesis, the deterioration of the masonry in the walls of houses in Iquitos, Maynas-Loreto was investigated, which is a notorious problem in the construction sector of that area, highlighting that one of the most important causes is the poor condition of materials in general. That is why, with concern for the environment and the search for innovation in the country's construction sector, steel slag, residue from steel factories, was used in the execution of concrete bricks. The purpose of the study is to find the influence that steel slag has as a substitute for sand in the execution of a concrete brick; validating the resistance to compression and shear stress, especially in masonry walls. We worked with 4 different dosages of substitution of steel slag that are: 0%, 15%, 20% and 30% of the weight of the fine aggregate. Coming to the conclusion that the substitution of fine aggregate for steel slag is efficient when it is used for a maximum percentage of 30 percent. The results found over time are optimal and viable, evidencing an increase in shear strength and compressive strength in masonry walls of buildings that are located in seismic zones.
