Currently, Instagram is one of the most popular social networks among young people, which has led to inappropriate use of it and, in turn, exposure to the development of an addiction to the application. Studies show that this addiction is associated with body image dissatisfaction. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between these two variables in students from private universities in Lima. A simple correlational design was used. The sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience; 315 students participated (M = 20 years, 213 women and 102 men). The Bergen Instagram Addiction Scale and the Body Image Questionnaire adapted by Dominguez-Lara et al. (2018) were used. Among the main findings, a statistically significant, moderate and positive correlation (rs = .42) was found between Instagram addiction (IA) and body image dissatisfaction (BID). Furthermore, statistically significant differences were found according to sex and time spent in the application for both variables. Regarding sex, a small effect size (rrb = .16) was obtained for IA; while for BID, the size was moderate (rrb = .39), with women scoring higher in both variables. Regarding the time invested, the effect size was moderate (rrb = .39) for IA, with the group that uses the application for 3 hours or more being more likely to develop an addiction to the network. Likewise, regarding BID, the size was small (rrb = .12), reflecting that the aforementioned group is the one that is vulnerable to experiencing dissatisfaction with their body.
