Introduction: Various studies have shown an association between sex and lethality due to COVID-19. Institutions such as the WHO urged the search for more information on this topic. Objective: To evaluate the association between the sex and the fatality rate due to COVID-19 in patients at the Central Military Hospital. Material and Methods: A quantitative observational retrospective analytical cohort study was carried out in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 at the Central Military Hospital between April and July 2020. Data analysis was carried out with the STATA v16 program. The Chi square and Fisher test were performed. In the multivariate analytical statistics, generalized linear models (GLM) were used, with Poisson family, log link function and robust variance. Results: The majority of those patients hospitalized were men (73.76%). Of the total patients, 46.38% represent the deceased. The risk factors with the highest percentage were arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus with 24.66% and 20.36% respectively. In the bivariate analysis, a significant association was found between arterial hypertension, age, use of hydroxychloroquine, BMI (overweight and obesity), PCR test, clinical diagnosis on admission and immunosuppression. In the adjusted model, the variables age and BMI (overweight and obesity) were statistically significant. In the analyzes presented, no statistically significant association was found between sex and lethality in the study population.
