Objective: Evaluate whether there is an association between the history of death of a family member and problematic alcohol consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic in users of social networks in Lima-Callao, year 2021. Material and Methods: Cross-sectional-analytical study. The population surveyed was 642 social network users in Lima-Callao between December 2021 and January 2022 who were over 18 years of age. The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) was used to know the population exposed to alcohol consumption and problematic consumption (cut-off point 28 points), and to measure the antecedent of death of a family member, questions that have been elaborated by self-report were used. The conditional probability of problematic consumption given consumption was modeled using a Poison regression with robust variance from which crude and adjusted PR with 95% CI were calculated. Results: 77.7% of the population presented alcohol consumption in the last year and of these, only 9.5% presented problematic alcohol consumption in the last year. The median age was 36 (IQR: 23;48) years, the history of death of a family member was present in 60.0% of respondents, 7.9% of respondents had a history of death of a first-degree relative. Alcohol consumption was present in 77.7% of the population and problematic alcohol consumption was present in 9.5% of the population. In the adjusted analysis, no association was found between the history of death of a family member with alcohol consumption (PR=1; p=0.37). Factors associated with alcohol consumption were male sex, district, current job, tobacco cigarette smoking and depressive symptoms (p<0.05). In relation to the conditional probability of problematic consumption given consumption, no association was found between the death of a family member and problematic alcohol consumption (PR=0.9; p=0.65), but an association was found with the variables: age, male sex and tobacco cigarette smoking (p<0.05). Conclusion: No association was found between the history of death of a family member and problematic alcohol consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic in users of social networks in Lima-Callao, year 2021. Further studies in different samples are required.
