This research aims to improve water supply in the lower part of the Fortaleza River basin during low water period, situated between the regions of Lima and Ancash, Peru. Data from meteorological and hydrometric stations provided by the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI) and the National Water Authority (ANA) were compiled. Fifteen meteorological stations were used to carry out parameter consistency analyses and the need for completing data for the water balance. Subsequently, a hydrological simulation of the Fortaleza basin was modeled using the WEAP software (Water Evaluation and Planning) in the current scenario (2022), considering calculated water demands (population and agricultural) and water supply (aquifers and the Fortaleza River). According to the results, there is a water deficit of 0.732 MMC/year from April to November. The need for this research arises from a potential dam proposal during the low water period due to the water deficit occurring between April to November. Therefore, the modeling of the Julquillas seasonal regulation dam has been proposed using the WEAP software, which allows maximizing the use and storage of available water during the rainy season (January to March) and utilize it in a regulated manner during the months of low water period. The obtained results have permitted to reduce the water deficit from 0.732 MMC/year to 0.464 MMC/year by implementing a dam with a maximum operating level of 2,225 MASL, capable of storing 2.2 MMC. According to the water balance in the current scenario, a dam with a volume of 1 MMC at a height of 20 meters has been considered, enabling a 98.3% coverage of the demand in the scenario with a project.
