This thesis studies the influence of the parameters of the HEC-HMS hydrological model for an extreme event in the upper part of the Chancay-Lambayeque basin. The methodology employed is to delimit the region using geoprocessing tools in order to enter important data such as rainfall in the sub-basins. The rainfall and flow transformation processes, calculation of infiltration loss, base flow method, Muskingum propagation method were the formulations needed to determine the model flows in a control station. Subsequently, a parameter adjustment was performed where the parameters of the base flow method and propagation method had the greatest influence on the results. The maximum flow of the model obtained presented a lower value than the observed one, representing a difference of 224.20 m3/s. This analysis is important for the contribution to obtain a set of parameters needed for the region and thus be useful for flow forecasting studies.
