Currently in the Piura region there are areas and seasons in which rains are abundant. These excessive rains, when interacting with other environmental factors such as slope, type of terrain, density of vegetation, among others, can produce natural disasters such as floods, rivers, canals, dams or lagoons. These natural disasters can produce risks, severe damage and in some cases irreparable damage in the cities located in the vicinity of these areas. To mitigate these risks, reduce damage to the population and carry out preventive measures, it is necessary to identify flood zones, which is why it was necessary to use new technologies such as GIS formats, which by identifying the different variables such as geology, slope, isohyets, vegetation cover, relief, flooded area and place a quantitative value on each of them based on how it affects the intensity of the natural disaster. This analysis is developed in a GIS environment, prepared with the ArcGis and HecRas program. , with the purpose of developing a map of the Chira-Piura basin with a color system that identifies, based on its intensity, which areas are most at risk of suffering from flooding. This map very effectively provides the delimitation of areas not suitable for construction or that require special protection structures.
