In Latin America, Peru is considered a country with a diverse sociocultural context, where there are Amazonian and Andean indigenous peoples. The Ministry of Culture of Peru recognizes the existence of 44 Amazonian and 4 Andean indigenous languages (n.d.); therefore, it is a commitment that education must reach everyone in an equitable manner through Intercultural Bilingual Education. For this reason, this qualitative research was carried out with a phenomenological approach with the objective of identifying the beliefs and causal attributions that parents of the Kindergarten and Elementary level of a Yagua community have about the development of IBE so that from their ancestral knowledge and participation strengthen the improvement and educational continuity in the Yagua community. For this, some grounded theory tools were used. Based on this methodological process, six semi-structured interviews were applied to parents at both levels. From the analysis of results, we found that the participants have limited knowledge about IBE. Likewise, it was identified that they consider the teaching performance important in terms of mastery of the native language, kindness and respect. On the other hand, it was evidenced that parents attribute the success of the preservation of the Yagua language and culture to teaching in the kindergarten/school. Thus, they value the preservation of the Yagua language, because they consider that it contributes to the academic future of their children. Finally, parents believe that the management of the native language allows their children to access university for free. In this way, parents consider that their children will have more opportunities in the academic and professional field if they handle the native language.
