The metal-mechanic industry, like other industries in the market, is subject to quick responses in its production system; companies belonging to supply chains seek to improve their management in order to remain in the dynamic market. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to propose an action plan for the reduction of unproductive times in a metal-mechanic based on the implementation of SLP, 5's and SMED tools. The last two mentioned techniques belong to the Lean Manufacturing philosophy, which has its origin in the Japanese manufacturing industry. On the one hand, SLP is a more accepted and commonly used methodology for solving plant layout problems. On the other hand, 5's is an appropriate technique to initiate and achieve the process of continuous improvement, which focuses on improving the organization system of a workspace. Finally, the SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Dies) technique focuses on reducing setup times. The validation of this research, which aims to design an improvement plan, resulted in an increase from 45.8% to 79.2% in productivity. Likewise, the reduction from 292.2 to 152.4 minutes in the flange manufacturing time is evidenced. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proposed model is effective and has achieved positive and favorable results, which shows that the combination of the three proposed tools is effective.
