Objective: To characterize the ingredients and nutritional composition reported on the labels and costs of vegan meat substitutes of animal origin in Peru and the United Kingdom in the year 2021. Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional study. 158 vegan meat substitutes of animal origin were selected from vegan stores and supermarkets in Peru and the UK. U Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests was used for comparing medians, and the Fisher's exact test for comparing proportions, considering a level of significance of p<0.05. Results: The most used ingredients in Peru and the UK were cereals, tubers, legumes and vegetable oils. According to the nutritional composition, the UK substitutes have a higher number of kilocalories, total fat, saturated fat and fiber than those in Peru. The cost of substitutes from the UK is higher than those from Peru in all foods and according to category. In all substitutes, more than 60.0% do not meet the healthy eating standards for sodium in Peru or the UK. In total fats in all UK substitutes, more than 80% do not meet the recommendations. Conclusion: In Peru and the UK, not commercialized vegan substitutes are necessarily healthy, since most exceed the regulations for sodium, saturated fat, and total fat. In addition, the cost is higher than its equivalent of animal origin.
