Introduction: Anxiety symptoms can have different causes, one of them may be physical isolation from the social environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of our study was to evaluate whether there is a relationship between physical isolation and the presence of anxiety symptoms in students of the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: An online questionnaire was used. The dependent variable is the presence of anxiety symptoms. The independent variable is physical isolation from the social environment. Prevalence ratios were calculated using Poisson regression analysis Results: 312 participants were surveyed. The majority are within the age range of 16 to 21 years. It was observed that 51.2% were physically isolated from the social environment. In reference to anxiety symptoms, it was shown that the majority were women with 54.2%. The presence of anxiety symptoms had a significant relationship with students who had been physically isolated from the social environment. RPa of those who had physical isolation from the social environment: 1,614, CI: 95% (1,276-2,041) compared to those who were not physically isolated from the social environment Conclusions: More than half of the students surveyed were physically isolated from the social environment, and it was concluded that the presence of anxiety symptoms has a greater relationship in students who physically isolated themselves from their social environment, compared to those who did not.
