This work addresses the problems of a company in the food sector, focused on the production of seasonings, such as monosodium glutamate (MSG). The field of action focuses on the weighing process of GMS bags in 9 packaging lines, where unexpected stops occur, mainly due to software failures and problems with the low reliability of production reports due to the identification of failures by weight is completely manual. Industry 4.0 tools were used to develop proposals for solving the problem, such as the use of a Programmable Logic Controller (CompacLogix L30ER) for the automation and integration of the 9 packaging lines, use of human-machine interfaces (HMI PV800 of 7”) with FactoryTalk View software to provide operators with a graphical interface that facilitates equipment monitoring and the development of a database with Microsoft SQL software to store the information required by the system. With the application of these tools, it is possible to reduce unscheduled stops, increasing the system utilization rate from x% to y% and reducing the monthly average of stops from a% to b%. Likewise, it improved the reliability of the system in the detection and identification of bags with faults, increasing traceability from s% to y% and reducing the time of identification and generation of failure reports from “t” minutes to “z” minutes. These results demonstrate the usefulness of automation for continuous improvement.
