The capital of the Inca country, Lima, is the first city with vehicular traffic problems in the entire South American region, since the average journey of 10 kilometers takes 27 minutes 10 seconds. The lack of regulation and planning of road networks and new routes generates a complicated situation in the districts of Lima. Furthermore, this problem is aggravated by the significant increase in the number of vehicles; and, in turn, causes serious traffic problems when traveling along the main avenues. For this reason, despite the solutions that are intended to regulate vehicle flow, no improvement is evident. Congestion in the city of Lima is almost permanent. These problems are not foreign to San Juan de Lurigancho, one of the districts with the largest number of inhabitants in Lima. In this district, the population has to experience worrying traffic congestion, since they spend a minimum of 2 hours a day traveling from their homes to their study or work centers. Added to this, the cost of transportation can be a quarter of citizens' minimum monthly salary. At the intersection of Av. Lurigancho with Av. Próceres de la Independencia and on the surrounding roads, a high vehicular demand is observed as there are several centers of influx of residents within its surrounding area. Therefore, this study will detail these problems and propose a solution using peripheral intersections to alleviate traffic congestion.
