SMEs in the plastics sector are an influential sector in the nationality economy, in factors such as job creation and contribution to the national GDP, so improving their levels of productive efficiency would contribute to national economic growth. Engineering, its methods and its tools are the weapons to be used to achieve this improvement. The company under study is an SME in the plastic sector, which manufactures drums, with extruder-blowing machines, using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and additives. Through the information of the manufacturing process, applying diagnostic tools, such as problem trees and Pareto diagrams, the main problem is identified, finding a technical gap in the general efficiency indicator of equipment OEE of the company (77.28%), when contrasted with industry standards (85% World Class). The root causes were determined to be due to machine factors such as breakdowns, heating and cooling failures, leaks, contaminants and obstructions, and others are due to personal factors such as errors, delays, and unscheduled absences. To reduce the occurrence of these root causes and improve the OEE, based on the reviewed literature, a combinatorial model of Lean Manufacturing method tools was implemented, such as SMED and TPM with its pillars, autonomous maintenance and some factors of planned maintenance. Resulting in validating the model by taking data from the model already implemented, an increase in the OEE of the company above the World Class standard.
