This thesis develops and compares coatings against scour produced in the bridge abutments. The protection structures analyzed are gabion mattresses and geocells filled with concrete. These alternatives are evaluated under the parameters of resistance, erosion, and roughness. To achieve an objective study of the defined variables, the case study of protection structures against scour in the pillars of the Morón bridge in the Chaclacayo-Lima district is chosen. Likewise, the study of hydrological, geotechnical and geological parameters is carried out to determine and preselect the best alternatives that adapt to the requirements of the case study, referring to the conditions of the area under study. According to the study of the alternatives, it is shown that the geocells have the capacity to resist the minimum stresses of the project. However, based on the analysis carried out, it has been determined that geocells with concrete filling have the best performance as a coating against erosion. Finally, although it is concluded that geocells are the most suitable coating, the joint use of these coatings is recommended as part of a comprehensive solution. Finally, the research evaluates important criteria of the application of conventional protection structures of gabion mattresses and compares them with geocell protection system filled with concrete. Which provides the implementation of geostructures as lining of hydraulic beds as an alternative to mitigate scour.
