The directors of the educational institutions fulfill many demands and many roles since there is a policy of results within their work environment. While a lot is expected from them, it's important to think about the impact of these policies and demands on directors' mental health or job burnout. Also, their motivations to continue in the position or leave it. This study seeks to know from the perspective of the directors themselves what their perceptions are about job burnout and its motivations. For this study, a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach was used in which 10 directors were interviewed in the Yarinacocha district of the Coronel Portillo province in Ucayali. It was found that directors feel job exhaustion when they have stressors such as the demands of higher entities, the shortage of personnel, parents, and the institutional climate. Also, it was found that managers have intrinsic and extrinsic motivations to continue in the position. The first is linked to personal growth and the second to economic growth. With the present investigation, a new line of research opens concerning the relationship between directors' performance and job exhaustion with school performance.
