The purpose of this work is to design and structure a 5-story building with masonry walls and will be located in the district of Madgalena in the province of Lima, which will be capable of achieving adequate and optimal structural performance in the face of seismic events. The building will be founded on an area that has a rectangular shape and has an area of 115.60 m2 and a constructed area of 96.20 m2 per floor. The building is planned using load-bearing masonry walls, lightened slabs, reinforced concrete plates and columns. The purpose of the project was to find an adequate distribution that gives us sufficient rigidity in both directions, with the aim of controlling lateral displacement and avoiding torsional moment. The distribution of the masonry elements in the building was a vital part of the work, since it allowed a good adaptation to the geometry of the plan, as well as the placement of the concrete columns that were designed uniformly to avoid the torsional reaction in the event of an earthquake. Regarding its behavior, symmetry is the basis of architectural efficiency, therefore, the importance of placing walls in both directions and giving them vertical continuity from the foundation, which provides greater structural rigidity. Regarding the use of software and spreadsheets, it is important to clarify that they are of great support in the analysis and design of structures, however, care must be taken when entering the data or trying to oversize them, since, in this way, erroneous results will be obtained, therefore, they must be used with appropriate criteria, taking into account the knowledge learned.
