Worldwide, it has been observed that poorly-graded, low-plasticity sandy soils are prone to the phenomenon of liquefaction. In this research work, the liquefaction potential of the sandy soil present in the New City of Olmos was evaluated using the methodology proposed by Boulanger and Idriss. Additionally, soil improvement was proposed to support a residential building in a study area within the city using the method of gravel columns. As a result of the application of these methodologies, it is shown that the soil in the study area is potentially liquefiable, as it has a liquefaction safety factor (FSF) less than unity to a depth of 7.45 meters. On the other hand, the soil exhibited improvements in liquefaction resistance with the implementation of gravel columns with a diameter of 80 cm and variable lengths depending on the load transmitted by the building column, with a maximum length of 3.3 meters below the isolated footings. Also, a recalculation of the soil's liquefaction potential in its improved condition was performed, revealing that the new liquefaction safety factor exceeds unity in the layers initially classified as liquefiable. Finally, the study conclusively indicates that the use of gravel columns to foundation residential buildings in the New City of Olmos improves the ground conditions and mitigates the liquefaction potential.
