Objective: To assess the diagnostic performance of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in adult patients with obesity. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Clínica Avendaño from August 2020 to June 2021. The sample included 177 patients with a diagnosis of obesity. The independent variable was the use of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein as a marker. Covariates for analysis included gender, age, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), glucose, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, morbid obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension. Results: The mean age of patients was 34.9 years, with a predominance of females (75%). Among the studied patients, 78.5% had NASH, and the median hsCRP was 4.19 (IQR: 2.3-7.0). In the bivariate analysis, no significant differences were observed between hsCRP levels and the diagnosis of NASH (p=0.916). Furthermore, the area under the curve (AUC) for hsCRP as a diagnostic test was 0.494. Conclusion: High-sensitivity C-reactive protein did not show good diagnostic performance for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in patients with obesity. However, increased concentrations of hsCRP were detected in the NASH group, but this difference was not statistically significant (p=0.8238).
