The purpose of this project is to show the development of a motor control and protection system based on a soft starter and electronic overload relay applied to water pumps used in underground mines in the mining sector of Peru. The developed system allows updating the traditional starting systems existing in Peruvian mining, optimizing direct starting systems for pumping applications and providing greater protection and robustness to solutions with difficult access to communication. The project approach is based on the IEC 60947-4 and UL 489 standards that specify and certify the guidelines for the development of motor starting systems respectively. Depending on the operation of the soft start system and overload relay, the approval of the workshop and field tests of the proposed design was generated.
