Populations of Peru’s coast suffer from a lack of water for agricultural use, which it is derived from its desert relief, incipient rainfall and lack of irrigation infrastructure. The Tambo Valley, whose main water source is the Tambo River watershed with an average annual mass of 407 MMC/year at 75% persistence, concentrating periods of rain from January to April and periods of precipitated scarcity from September to December. In this research, proposals for operating rules are analyzed for the Yanapujio dam project, it is located between the confluences of the Paltiture and Ichuna sub-watersheds, with the purpose of achieving a balance between the supply and demand of water for agricultural use. The study models a “current” situation without a project and a “with project” scene that includes the Yanapujio dam, with the objective of serving the La Ensenada, Cocachacra and Punta de Bombón irrigation sectors. In the water balance of the “current” situation, the water deficit of the El Tambo valley has been determined to be -19,603 MMC/year and in the “with project” scene, it has been proposed to extract water from the dam. For the investigation, the WEAP planning hydrological simulation model was used, we are taking into consideration the contributions of the Tambo River, the storage capacity of the 50 MMC dam and the geometry of the reservoir, results of the calibrations and simulations of the system, consequently, all these parameters generate operating rules of the regulated dam for dry periods in the Tambo valley.
