The present research project entitled “Improvement of the bearing capacity (CBR) of clay soil through the incorporation of papaya latex, in the section of the paving project of a second class highway in the province of Huamanga, Ayacucho“ addresses the common complications in the execution of road paving and demonstrates a new stabilization methodology for poor soils with low resistance (low CBR and high expansion percentage). This new alternative method is mainly based on incorporating a raw material (papaya latex) to the same poor soil with low CBR (less than six percent) and high expansion percentage. In this research, papaya latex has been used as a raw material and alternative to stabilize a clay soil. The corresponding tests were carried out in the laboratory certified with the international ISO 9001 standard “GEOTTECHNICAL ENGINEERING AND QUALITY CONTROL - INGEOCONTROL”. According to the samples (soil type) obtained and corresponding tests, the study is based on a single type of soil stratum (clayey) and the diversifications obtained in its bearing capacity (CBR) after the incorporation of papaya latex at 0.3 %, 0.5% and 0.7%. At the beginning of the investigation, it was determined that the CBR (95% M.D.S.) 0.1 inches of the clay soil was 4.0%, incorporating the raw material a value of up to 22.0% was obtained for a CBR (95% M.D.S.) 0.1 inches. The main objective of this stabilization is to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the soil so that it meets the requirements stipulated in the regulations. To do this, it was necessary to analyze the improvement of the bearing capacity (CBR) of the clay soil contained in the extension of the paving project section in the district of Pacaycasa, Ayacucho. Which are applied and developed in this research. All necessary tests were carried out in accordance with the parameters established in the road manual for natural soil, including the addition of raw material. It was found that the incorporation of papaya latex as a stabilizer improves certain physical and mechanical properties of the soil. That is, an improvement in the expansion percentage is evident.
