Due to the current investment in the national territory in infrastructure for the modernization and maintenance of airports, the project stages are being managed using new technologies belonging to industry 4.0 to avoid rework, exceeding budgets and exceeding the established contractual time or deadline. by the contractor and the contracting party. Keeping this situation in mind, the research focuses on the design stage as it is considered of great relevance in the life cycle of the projects, the implementation of an improved procedure with Lean tools is addressed within the work process of the design stage in airports in Peru that use the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology as part of project design management. To do this, three airport projects that are currently being executed are selected and a diagnosis of the design process being carried out in each one is carried out, where six types of causes of rework were determined during the design. Once the diagnosis is made, Lean tools and techniques are chosen for the application and improvement in the design process based on previous documentation. With the determined tools, we proceed to design the procedure for its incorporation into the workflow and finally, because of the expert judgment, it indicates that the proposed procedure serves and is useful to reduce rework in the design stage. Therefore, it is concluded that the application of Lean tools within process flows contributes to reducing rework identified during the design stage and is beneficial for companies that design airports with the BIM methodology.
