Peru has a vast range of landscapes and soil types, which impacts the stability of the land, potentially leading to issues with construction projects. Therefore, it is necessary to check the stability of slopes using a straightforward method that does not consider all the potential variations that might occur. In this study, the stability of slopes at the Patiquista dam is examined using both simple and more complex methods. To determine if the slopes are safe using the simple method, techniques developed by experts like Bishop, Janbu, and Spencer are employed, utilizing a computer program called Slide and adhering to Eurocode 7 guidelines. On the other hand, the more complex method uses random sampling techniques like Monte Carlo and Latin Hypercube to assess if the slopes are safe, indicating that simply having a safety factor above 1.0 doesn't always mean the slope is stable. The study also thoroughly investigates the soil's capacity to withstand pressure, including its weight, the angles it can handle, and how well it sticks together. The findings indicate that the slopes deemed risky by the simple method didn't always match the areas where the complex method suggested there might be problems due to numerous uncertainties. It becomes evident that using only the simple method doesn't provide a complete picture when evaluating the stability of slopes for various construction projects.
