In the study area, there are urban and agricultural areas that are highly vulnerable to flooding events, according to evaluations carried out by the National Water Authority (ANA). For this reason, the objective of this research work is to evaluate a section of the Tumbes River and contrast the existing marginal strip carried out in 2019. The results are analyzed and the flooded areas are determined considering the FEN events 2017 and 2023. The study is It is based on the obtaining, analysis and processing of hydrometric and topographic information, which together and with technical criteria will allow the delimitation of the marginal strip. For hydrological modeling, a statistical analysis was carried out and, subsequently, the information from the data collected from the El Tigre station was processed with return periods of 50 and 100 years. On the other hand, for topography, satellite images were used and transferred to GIS software. In addition, two-dimensional hydraulic modeling was carried out with the HEC-RAS software in the study area to obtain the flow behavior of the river and the areas that present a risk of flooding due to maximum floods for different return periods are eliminated. Then, the marginal strip was delimited based on the results obtained from hydraulic modeling considering a minimum width established according to Headquarters Resolution 332-2016 of the ANA. Finally, a contrast was made with the existing marginal strip proposed by the ANA and the flooded areas with different return periods were evaluated.
