In the present study, the aim was to address the socio-environmental issue of the progressive shortage of drinking water, mainly in domestic activities in the households of the Atavillos Bajo district. To achieve this, a descriptive investigation was conducted, focusing on the collection and analysis of geomorphological and hydrological data. The results revealed a marked seasonality in precipitation, emphasizing the importance of considering the implementation of a rainwater harvesting system as a crucial strategy for the sustainable use of water resources. The study also showed that the population demand decreases over the years. Additionally, data on water supply indicate that, through the implementation of a rainwater harvesting system for domestic water, the water flow will be sufficient to supply the district, supporting the feasibility of this solution to the issue of drinking water shortage in the community. Costs associated with housing were evaluated, and the community's willingness to finance such a system was explored, yielding promising results. In this context, the study not only identified challenges and opportunities in water management but also proposed recommendations for efficient planning, awareness campaigns, and training programs to contribute to the sustainable management of this vital resource. The research adopted an experimental design to carry out comprehensive and consecutive processes, ensuring the achievement of previously contemplated results.
